Project idea

Creating a package of methodological materials for everyone involved in leisure activities for people with autism and intellectual disabilities, to improve the quality of life of such individuals and their families.

Implementation methods: printed publication of methodological materials; electronic version of the printed publication; video materials.

Target audience: specialists and teachers working with people with autism and intellectual disabilities; volunteers conducting sections and organizing leisure activities; parents and relatives of people with autism and intellectual disabilities.

The project authors have developed a model for a summer camp called "Summer with Meaning," designed for children and adolescents with autism, drawing on the experiences of the American Camp Rising Sun. The methodological materials are created based on the analysis of the gained experience and identification of a leisure activity model that is applicable to various recreational pursuits for individuals with autism and mental disorders.

Relevance

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is the most common developmental disorder, but most children with intellectual disabilities in Russia do not receive adequate support and assistance due to a lack of information and specialists. Such families often experience stress and isolation. Providing them with information and tools for organizing leisure activities can improve their quality of life. The methodological package will help include children and young adults with intellectual disabilities in any leisure activities, which will contribute to their social integration.
