Project idea

The project aims to enhance parent-child relationships in families with children who have mental disorders, genetic conditions, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

A series of activities is planned for the early detection of pathologies, the development of personalized growth plans, and support in their execution for young children with developmental peculiarities.

The project's goal is to provide psychological relief to parents by establishing a communicative space and setting up a theater studio for mothers and fathers. The intention is to offer classes for families with children who have special needs and to provide crisis support for these families.

Psychologists and educators will share knowledge and skills related to the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) techniques to participants. These sessions will enhance engagement, including with non-verbal children, and assist parents in gaining a deeper understanding of their child.

The project will feature a significant component: a family vacation at a summer camp. This approach enables professionals to observe the dynamics of parental relationships, both with each other and with their children, and to intervene to resolve conflicts when necessary. On the other hand, these experiences provide children with opportunities to socialize and adapt within their peer society.

Relevance

The birth of a child with special health needs can significantly strain the relationship between spouses and their interactions with society. Many parents feel helpless in such a situation. This is attributable to the psychological characteristics inherent in the condition of the ill infant, coupled with the immense emotional strain placed upon the family members.

All of this results in a diminished capacity or failure to satisfy fundamental psychophysical and individual social needs. This can result in family disintegration and the abandonment of one's own child.

It is crucial to engage in prompt interactions with parents to facilitate the early identification of various disorders, enhance their knowledge and skills, and empower mothers and fathers to select the most suitable approach to child-parent relationships.

A parent equipped with the proper specialized psychological and behavioral tools, and who is well-versed in alternative and additional methods of communicating with their child, stands a significantly better chance of managing emotional burnout and is less prone to experiencing destructive thoughts.

Families raising a child with special needs require support and assurance that they will not face their challenges in isolation.
