Project idea

This project is tailored for professionals assisting families facing challenging circumstances. The primary focus is on providing support, assistance, and enhancing the effectiveness of socio-psychological support for crisis situations in relationships among close relatives.

The work is essential to prevent and decrease the incidence of teen suicide and domestic violence.

The project includes in-person training workshops and participation in online webinars spanning a two-month period.

During the training, psychologists and social workers will examine case studies and explore innovative methods for working with families exhibiting low parental competence. They will receive answers to practical questions from actual experience.

We will develop effective methodological recommendations for professionals encountering various challenges in their work, including incomplete or completed suicides, child abuse, and more.

Through the project's initiatives, the social-psychological service personnel will enhance their expertise and qualifications, empowering them to utilize their newly acquired knowledge in practical applications to bolster family and child welfare.

Relevance

The pandemic served to further exacerbate these issues. The incidence of dysfunctional families where parents pay scant attention to their children has risen significantly. The level of protection for the health and well-being of the younger generation has diminished. The incidence of emotional repression and various forms of violence against minors has risen.

As of January 1, 2021, 18,656 families facing challenging circumstances, with a total of 38,700 children, are registered with social protection agencies. 180 families are facing a situation of social peril. They are home to 629 people, including 385 children.

This situation has evolved into a significant challenge for social support services, whose expertise does not consistently meet the needs of families and children facing challenging circumstances.

To achieve effective, high-quality outcomes and positive results, specialists must possess the ability to integrate seamlessly into the family dynamic, identify areas of need, and possess strategies to motivate parents toward enhancing their lives.

Social workers must be trained to recognize the subtle indicators of child and family dysfunction, as they are often the first to engage with individuals in potentially unhealthy relationships.

Additionally, the issue of teenage suicide has recently escalated. Monitoring in the Kaliningrad Region revealed that in 2017 there were 24 recorded instances of suicide, resulting in the deaths of 5 teenagers. In 2018, there were 29 cases, with five children succumbing. In 2019, the number of cases was 26, leading to 4 fatalities.

To mitigate and lower the incidence of suicide, it is essential to equip psychologists and support service professionals with effective techniques and technologies for assistance and support.

Project Results

The project activities have enhanced the professional expertise of psychologists and social workers in the Kaliningrad Region. This arises from the feedback and the number of consultations conducted to implement new technologies.

The expertise acquired from training sessions and webinars will enhance the efficiency and quality of social workers' support for families in crisis. New methodologies and practices will enable the development of enhanced and more adaptable programs to support and assist individuals facing challenges.

Additionally, we have developed, structured, and systematized practical materials for case work, tailored for specialists with varying levels of expertise.

Joint training sessions and supervision expanded the network of project participants and made it easier to identify partners for various tasks.
