Project idea
"IMPORTANT FOR MOM" is a collaborative initiative between non-profit and governmental organizations aimed at replicating a comprehensive social support model for young orphaned mothers in difficult life circumstances across the Russian Federation regions. Pooling our efforts will create the necessary synergistic impact, broaden the spectrum of support available to young mothers, and enhance its accessibility.
The project aims to empower young women from less privileged backgrounds, fostering confidence in their motherhood, inspiring self-improvement, encouraging them to take charge of their lives, and cultivating self-motivation.
The project will place particular emphasis on providing essential individual support, ensuring timely and thorough evaluation, and addressing life situations that require correction.
Through this project, young mothers with children will receive essential legal, psychological, and social support.
To ensure successful implementation, the following actions are required:
- Gather teams of specialists and volunteers across regions.
- Train facilitators to develop personalized care plans tailored to individual cases.
- Select 100 young mothers and their preschool-aged children in need of assistance to participate in the project.
Disseminate information about the project's milestones and advancements across social media platforms, with the aim of engaging a broad audience of interested individuals. This ensures stakeholders are updated promptly and allows for the exchange of experiences.
Relevance
In 2020, the Foundation for the Support of Children in Difficult Situations, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, carried out a study on the criteria for the accessibility of social services for families with children and orphanage graduates.
The findings of the study revealed that the proportion of graduates from organizations who have a child or children struggling with social adaptation is nearly twice as high as that of other families. Among graduates residing in rural areas, this proportion is three times greater, and the incidence of domestic violence or intra-family conflict is five times higher in these families.
Individuals with orphan backgrounds often face challenges in raising their own children and creating a happy family due to maternal deprivation, the absence of a positive family upbringing model, limited confidence in their abilities and competencies, and diminished motivation for self-improvement.
The survey results from the "Spread Your Wings!" Foundation indicate that the primary needs of young mothers are as follows:
- Moral, psychological support and help from relatives (50%).
- Material assistance (47%).
- Housing assistance (28%).
- Assistance with parenting (22%).
Thanks to the "Important for mom" project, an opportunity has arisen:
- To decrease the incidence of child abandonment resulting from financial and housing hardships.
- To share insights on nurturing and raising a child.
- To minimize the likelihood of encountering challenging circumstances once more.
- To enhance motivation to elevate the quality of both personal and their children's lives.
The projects currently underway aim to prevent child abandonment and the separation of children from their families,
assistance in realizing the rights of mothers and children, and enhancing the quality of life for young families with children.
Social effect
To decrease the incidence of child removals and abandonment by young mothers with orphan backgrounds, we aim to increase the variety and accessibility of suitable support for families deemed at risk.

Project Results
The post-project survey indicates that 59% of respondents recognized opportunities for beneficial activities for themselves and their children as a result of the project. The activities fostered an understanding of their children's needs. 59% of mothers report that they have grown more empathetic towards their children. Up to 36% of mothers believe that conflicts in their relationships have decreased; they have gained more confidence in their parenting skills, and also observed that their child has acquired a wealth of new and interesting knowledge.
Based on the outcomes of individual consultations, it can be inferred that participation in the project has enhanced mothers' motivation to foster partnerships. Mothers who actively engaged in the Conscious Parenting School courses demonstrated a greater interest in collaboration.
The achieved outcome in enhancing the accessibility of assistance indicates that over half of the families (58%) reside not in regional centers but in small towns, settlements, villages, and hamlets, in 43 localities in total. No matter where participants resided, all forms of assistance provided by the project were accessible to them.
An additional indicator of the improved accessibility of assistance is that several mothers joined the project a few months after its inception, following recommendations from other mothers and posts on social media.
Project progress after CSS funding
To advance the project, we aim to launch a fundraising campaign targeting corporations and individuals who are closely aligned with and interested in the project's subject matter.
Grant funds will also be allocated to enhance and sustain the "Important for mom" project.
Volunteer organizations will also be enlisted to help.
