Project idea

The Cheburiadе games Basketball 3*3 is a philanthropic initiative aimed at promoting basketball among teenagers aged 12-15.

The Cheburiadе games Basketball 3*3 project is targeted at children facing challenging life situations:

  • developing new qualities (strength, endurance, health) with potential future value in diverse professions;
  • honing skills in planning, setting goals, and finding motivation;
  • committing to beneficial activities that help distract from negative life experiences;
  • fostering friendships and positive relationships among peers.

Sports can be a great alternative to children’s fascination with computer games and addictions to bad habits (smoking, alcohol, drugs).

Children participating in the project will be provided with the necessary number of sports uniforms and sports equipment.

The project encompasses free training sessions, competitions, and master classes, conducted by professional basketball players or volunteers. Over the 90-day project duration, children will not only train in basketball skills (throwing and catching the ball, hoop shooting, distance and accuracy aiming), but also participate in exercises promoting overall body strengthening (walking, running, jumping).

Training will take place several times a week at the social facility and monthly workshops will be held with professional players and/or by volunteers.

The project will end with a large-scale competition for all project participants at the Khimki Stadium in Moscow Region. Participating in this beautiful event will serve as a great motivation for the orphanage residents.

Relevance

Research analysis on the development of motor skills and children’s health (E.N. Vavilova, 1981; N.A. Notkina, 1980) suggests that nearly 40% of older schoolchildren demonstrate a below-average level of motor skills.

According to M. Runova (1998), physical education lessons in school institutions allow to fill only 55-60% of children’s natural need for movement. This leads to poor health, lower vitality, and the acquisition of bad habits.

Basketball was chosen for a reason. This captivating game encourages team collaboration, stimulates children’s enthusiasm, and promotes an interest in the concept of healthy competition. For some children, basketball could become a daily healthy routine. The final outcome of the project: substituting sports for gadgets and the use of psychoactive substances.

Project Results

Basketball activities brought the team together, with 5-7 training sessions being held each week for a month. Participants developed an interest in their personal and team outcomes.

The project led to a change in the lifestyle of teenagers, with more than 50% showing an increased interest in sporting activities, and a 20% improvement in their physical fitness.

A social impact was also achieved: teams from various institutions expressed a desire to continue with their basketball activities, corroborated by feedback from both children and physical education teachers.

All eight children’s institutions are prepared to continue their basketball activities, with the aid of professional coaches and student teams.

Methodological recommendations have been drawn up for the two NGO project partners and eight children’s institutions.

Project progress after CSS funding

Plans are in place to continue the project annually, with an extended training schedule (a full academic year instead of three months). Competitions will be organized every four to six months. Participation in competitions will not be restricted to the participants’ own city but also extended to a regional level.

 The foundation is actively seeking funding from both individuals and corporate entities to further develop the project.
