Project idea

The primary goal of the project is to provide comprehensive assistance to foster families and families facing challenging life situations in Novosibirsk and the Novosibirsk Region.

 The support program encompasses:

  • children’s educational sessions;
  • organizing an inclusive camp;
  • seminars and consultations for parents.

Educational and developmental activities will enhance children's motivation to study and boost their academic performance, while equipping parents with the necessary psychological knowledge to facilitate their interactions with their children.

The project started in 2021. In the upcoming season, supplementary events are planned in addition to those already undertaken: the formulation of individual educational programs for participants, the organization of new seminars and sessions for parents, along with the introduction of new developmental activities focusing on music, chess, and creativity.

Relevance

The project holds significant social value as, according to publicly available sources, the rate of foster children being returned to state institutions is alarmingly high. This is predominantly attributable to challenges related to education.

It is noteworthy that foster children frequently have special health needs, which undoubtedly impact their learning process and its outcomes. In reality, the principle of equal opportunities for education is not universally implemented – there is a lack of experienced teachers, suitable resources, and additional tutors for children who have experienced orphanhood and those in difficult life situations.

The social value of the project for the parents themselves cannot be overstated. By bringing a child into their home, parents assume responsibility for addressing the child's issues, but the complexity of these problems often exceeds the family's resources. These parents, particularly if the child has severe diagnoses, live on an emotional precipice, and their need for support is imperative. Such support is vital to prevent parents, due to overwhelming stress and emotional burnout, from deciding to return the child to orphanage institutions.

Social effect

Reduction in the number of secondary rejections of children from orphanages in the Novosibirsk region through assistance in tackling long-standing problems in education and comprehensive support for foster parents.

Project Results

Positive progress in the development of knowledge, skills, and abilities related to school subjects, as well as the development of social competencies as a result of participating in music, sports, and creative activities (at least in one parameter), has been observed in 100% of the project's participants.

 Eleven specialists from Novosibirsk have successfully upgraded their professional qualifications. The consultation and supervision activities, carried out from 01.09.2023 to 30.03.2024, were generally rated as beneficial by the participants, achieving an average overall score of 4.38 on a 5-point scale.

 A new financial partner has joined the platform in Novosibirsk, contributing to the stability of the project.

Project progress after CSS funding

The project will be continued due to the high demand for accessible schooling for children residing in the Lozhok village. To ensure the project's long-term viability, we plan to extend our partnerships with local organizations.
