Project idea

The project aims to organize supportive parent communities focused on the education of children with a history of orphanhood.

Adoptive parents face many difficulties in the learning process of children who, due to a complex past, exhibit destructive behavior patterns. For successful education and socialization, children require long-term rehabilitation, while substitute parents need professional support.

The project will take place in two cities: Novosibirsk and Moscow. In Novosibirsk, there will be 4 group seminars, at least 220 personal consultations for parents, and 600 consultations and classes for children. In Moscow, comprehensive support for parents and children will be provided: 3 group seminars and at least 180 personal consultations.

The project plans regular experience exchange among specialists through remote meetings, personal curator consultations, as well as open webinars and publications on the topic of education for children with a history of orphanhood.

Uniting parents into a supportive community will enhance their competence in assisting children in the learning process. It will help prevent emotional burnout of substitute parents, crisis in child-parent relationships, and secondary refusals of adopted children, while also increasing their resilience and the possibility of accepting more orphaned children into families.

As a result, children in adoptive families will feel the support of their parents in the learning process, with their help they will be able to gain successful experience in overcoming difficulties at school, believe in themselves, and increase their motivation to study.

Relevance

In recent years, children from orphanages have been actively placed in families; however, adoptive parents do not receive sufficient support in raising children, and the state program for training potential adoptive parents occurs before parents meet a specific child and encounter real difficulties. As a result, the number of children returned to institutions remains high, and any serious upheavals (crises, epidemics, wars) exacerbate the situation, leading to an increase in family adversity and the number of children in orphanages.

Thus, supporting adoptive parents in overcoming real difficulties and creating successful adaptation experiences reduce the likelihood of a child being returned to an institution. Additionally, one of the main problems for adoptive families is the difficulty in the education of children with orphanhood experience; as many of them lag in knowledge, have low motivation to study, and weak willpower.

Educational support is in high demand, as there is an acute shortage of information and specialists in this area.

Social effect

Improving the level of education, socialization, and well-being of children with orphanhood experience in Novosibirsk, Moscow, and the Novosibirsk region. Prevention of secondary rejections of orphaned children. Support for adoptive parenting.

Project Results

The following results have been achieved:

  • Increased parental competencies among adoptive parents in supporting children during the learning process. Parents noted that they now better understand how to help a child adapt in school, interact with teachers, and build relationships with classmates.
  • The level of parental expectations and requirements for the child's studies has been adjusted.
  • Support for the child in difficult situations has become more effective.
  • The level of stress, anxiety, and conflicts related to lessons, grades, and studies has decreased in the families.
  • Adoptive parents were able to see that the difficulties they face are not unique and that there are ways to overcome them.
  • The training of specialists in Novosibirsk contributed to enhancing their professional competencies and creating new jobs in the region.
  • Getting acquainted facilitated the exchange of experiences, useful information, and contacts between adoptive and potential adoptive parents.
  • Adoptive children feel more parental support. They were able to establish relationships at school, learn to overcome difficulties, and gained increased motivation for studying, relying on their parents' support.

Teachers learned about the specifics of the educational process for children with orphanhood experience and will be able to take this into account when working with them.
