Discussion “Fundraising for NPOs: What Has Changed?”

24/12/2024

What has changed in fundraising in recent years and where are we now? This topic was discussed by representatives of NGOs and businesses at an expert discussion of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation. We attended the event and share our impressions.

Elena Shlegel, head of the SberVmeste charity platform, shared the latest statistics. According to her data, no decline in receipts has been recorded on their platform in recent years. Elena also named the most popular donor's priority - helping children with curable diseases.

At the same time, she admitted that a study of the preferences of the SberVmeste audience showed that most donors do not understand the logic of the platform. Even when users make a donation to a particular foundation, they think that the final decision on the direction of funds rests with SberVmeste experts.

But Kira Smirnova, the Director of Sustainable Development at the Samolet Group of Companies, said that their audience's preferences have actually changed in recent years. Now, the direction "Helping people in difficult life situations" is really popular.Kira also said she wishes more NGOs would approach her with charitable projects that align with the company's values. But when fundraisers do consider the Samolet Group's values, their proposals turn into successful campaigns where everyone benefits.

Natalia Tsvetkova, the coordinator of charitable programs of the Foundation for Homeless Animals "Ray", concluded the discussion. There are no fundraisers in this foundation; part of the responsibility for fundraising lies with each member of the team. When interacting with actual or potential donors, Ray's employees try to convey the value of helping animals, show the variety of cooperation options, and help the partner find his or her ideal way to help. The result is that the company's representatives are truly committed to solving social problems, rather than paying them off with infrequent remittances. In Natalia's opinion, values are more important than money.
